We wanted to capture the sense of even when you are alone, you are never lonely; there are always loved ones rallying in your heart. Although we as sisters may be apart, separated by distance and time and creating art in separate studios, we can still feel each other's work and growth along side us. We know that our hearts are never far from each other. This keeps us and our community resilient and defiant.

This sense of light-heartedness and happiness is something we wish for each other as sisters. We, Jade and Sung Moon, create art together, write stories together, and experience this world together. 

We have known each other almost our entire lives, living and laughing together, but creating something beautiful together with one vision is new to both of us. The joys and challenges that come with trying something new with someone so close to you is an experience everyone should have at least once in their life. 

DREAM OF THE OTHER SIDE, 2023

A mysterious mist begins to roll in. The playful tickle of a sweet syrupy aroma captures you. The lids of your eyes grow heavier with each passing breath. This haze calls to you. As the clouds slowly plume, you are brought to a realm that is not quite awake nor asleep; it is the dreamy inbetween. You take a deep breath, and for a glimpse of the moment, you see yourself from the other side. 

Over the years we have made peace with who we are and how we are different from most people. We are children of the African diaspora, not quite accepted in the communities we claim. At times, it can be a lonely existence to have half the love and acceptance from everyone, but never full and unconditional. We have had to look deep within ourselves to find that full love. Within each other, we have found what we have been seeking. We want to inspire and empower other children of the diaspora through our art to love and nourish themselves and grow their own communities.
